Been dealing with this issue for awhile and am stumped as to why. Well i've been using non-ethanol fuel and while running the M Farmall for any length of time, when I shut it down and go back inside, say overnight, i've been catching the fuel that leaks from the over-flo at bottom of carb. It has been darker in color, as if mixed with oil. Can someone tell me if this is normal or something else? Thanks in advance.

It could be one of two things, or a combination: The fuel will disolve deposits of the chemicals that were in the old gasoline and clean the system, the second is the evaporation of volitile
components of the new fuel, and it will darken. If the fuel in the tank is 6 months old It will darken any way. One sure thing is to not let the drip happen. Two realities. the first is
that the fuel should be shut off at the sediment bowl every time the tractor is going to be put away or stopped for lunch. It should be Standard Operating Procedure. No exceptions.
The second is that the needle and seat in the carb need to be replaced to keep the fuel where it belongs. Both are important and equally mandatory. Jim

A quick fix for a leaking bowl is to smack the side of the carb gently with a piece of wood . The shock usually frees the float . Only temporary but handy when pressed . Then dismantle , clean and repair like Jim said .

I'd bet its dissolving crud out of the tank. Your needle and seat aren't set right if the carb is leaking.

Depends on where the fuel is coming from, and how much fuel you are talking about.

A few drops out the bottom of the carb following a shut down is normal. That is fuel draining back down out of the intake. That fuel is probably discolored with carbon, a normal occurrence.

But if there is a substantial amount of fuel, as in it continues to drip, then there is a problem with the needle valve not sealing properly.

That can be caused from a defective needle valve, partially sunk float, float level set too high, or contamination in the fuel holding the needle off the seat.

If this is happening it needs to be corrected. That can be the source of the discoloration, if the engine is running too rich it will cause more fuel to drain back down on shut off, and excess carbon.

In the mean time closing the fuel valve is always a good practice.

First, thanks guys for replys. I'm a stickler for shutting off fuel at bowl after use. The plugs are black, all of the time, even when new plugs are installed. The carb has been rebuilt several times with notice of the float off of its pin that it rides on. I have clamped it down the best that I can. I wonder if small crud is getting past the extremely fine filter screwed into the carb, causing the needle to be off of its seat? If so then it is staying off. Yes I have tried the tapping method, on the side of the carb. I hate pulling that carb because of the possibility of cross threading the fuel line and wanted to stay with the original look. It would have made better since to have put a rubber fuel line on those tractors from the factory. I should mention that the large fuel screw is turned out 1 turn on the bowl and air screw is turned out 2 and a half turns.
