Maybe a simple/stupid question but how do you remove the caps without damaging them? I need to put new tires on my splitter therefore I need to get the wheels off. Thanks Jeff

I have used a channellock too, or a soft hammer, just go round and round. you need the soft hammer to put them back in the hub anyhow. Maybe you should just let the tire shop do it?

I tried tapping with a dead-blow,no luck. I was afraid channel locks would crush them. They have been on about 18 yrs. without ever being removed.I'll try to use the channels carefully. Thank you

I wiggle or drive a screwdriver behind the ring and pry them off.
A chisel or hard piece of wood on that same ring to put it back on.
Depending on how tight they fit you will have to go around it a few time when taking it off and putting it back on.

I take a cold chisel and drive it between the hub and the cap a little bit at a time in several places around the cap until it is loose enough to pull off by hand.

That style is easy to pull with Channel Locks.

If it collapses them a little, just put a piece of round stock in the vise, just smaller then the ID of the cover. Tap it back round with a small hammer.

Here is a tool you can purchase for this purpose: https://www.amazon.com/Vim-Tools-V216-Dust-Plier/dp/B000X2533Y/ref=asc_df_B000X2533Y/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309807921328&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14390452484967236645&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9008121&hvtargid=pla-495097918257&psc=1
