Tape Measures

Well all mine that I have miss placed or lost are probably
partying somewhere and their should be quite a crowd !
When is national utility knife day ? That’ll be a big party too !

Dija know that if you take a tape measure blade and fold it back on itself (in this case 30) all the numbers across from each other will add up to 30?

There used to be an "age gauge" trick where you put the end on the current year and look at the year you were born, your age would be the number opposite it. It doesn't seem to work though since Y2K.

I always like to have the end of what I'm measuring to my right, and my measuring tape/yoyo, in my left hand, then using my right hand mark the length.
But most of the yoyo's numbers are upside down then, and it is very easy to mark it wrong.
I think those yoyo's are called Right Hand.
If you search hard enough you can find a Left hand yoyo.
I have a couple of duel readers, both right and left.
I use them on my bench where I cut and fab sheet metal.

Reminds me of a time 45 years ago when I
was working as a millwright apprentice.
The foreman hollered to me to come over
there and bring my tape measure.
I brought it over.
He said,
"I want to measure the length of this I
beam."
I pulled a foot or two out so he could
grab the end.
I guess he didn't trust me to read it
right and wanted to do that himself.
So he said,
"No! you take the dumb end."
and snatched the tape out of my hand and
gave me the end.
He was a great guy and I liked working
for him.
I still use his same words and trick when
someone asks me to hold the end of a
tape.
