Lost the clip on the rod that holds the plunger and spring in place on one of my John Deere grease guns I bought a tube of super lube synthetic grease that’s who makes the John Deere synthetic grease 13$ at Napa 10.50$ at John Deere the super lube tube had directions about Leaving the plastic end of the tube on and then it was supposed to help keep grease come out of the tube better well it the steel rod got stuck in the plastic cap and ripped the keeper off so I welded a couple tacks to hold the plunger and spring where they need to be

Looks good. Trying to find a grease gun that will last. The ones in the local stores look like they'll fail after a couple pumps of grease or won't work at all. I want the trigger-type, have never figured out how to hold the hose on the fitting while pumping with two hands. Great way to grease the outside of the zerk.

These have been good ones had em about 10 years now they
prime well and you can change the pressure for hard zerks or
for more flow for easy zerks they cost about 40$ . I’m not a
real big fan of the lever guns either they work best with a steal
pipe rather than a hose but that doesn’t work a lot of times

A locking coupling on the grease gun locks onto the zirc. It's cheap and simple.

Thanks. I'll check to see what's out there. I want a grease gun like SVCummins has. Had a good one but must have gotten lost in the shuffle.

I'm talking about a locking coupling not a whole grease gun. You can buy the locking couplings and screw them onto any existing grease gun. That's why I said simple and cheap.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Still need a good grease gun to screw it onto, though.

John Deere part no. TY26689 is a pistol
grip gun like what svcummins has
pictured. I've had mine for about a year,
and I think it is really well built. The
handle linkage can be moved to either
pump high volume/lower pressure or higher
pressure/low volume. I paid around $41
for it, and I think it is much better
than the Lincoln or cheaper Alemite guns
I've used before.

Thanks for the info, everyone. Even though this was SVcummins conversation I'm glad I weighed in.

Tractor is getting dry at its lube points, mostly on the loader. And the car lift I just installed has some grease zerks that really need a few pumps of grease.

I held off on buying anything because the guns I looked at in person looked like junk and also were too low-priced to be a quality tool. I'll buy the grease gun recommended here and the coupler that holds onto the zerk.

Thanks again, sorry SV to monopolize the discussion. Nice repair, BTW.

Those are awesome grease guns.. When I started my current in town job they had a bushel basket full of lincoln and other parts house brand grease guns, a new one would last anywhere from 3 weeks to 6 months.. While at the local JD dealer getting parts I bought one just like those, that was over 8 years ago. We still use it daily and have bought a couple more since.. Very Good Investment...

If you can find them have a look at McNaught guns. They work with both cartridges and bulk grease, last and they have replacement plunger kits.

For priming you pull the rod out and a part turn locks it in the plunger so you can lean on it

Your fine . Finding a decent grease gun is a pretty tough job
anymore. I really like these because you can change it to high
pressure or high flow

Thanks for the recommendation, going to hit the JD dealer tomorrow see if they have anything in stock. It's only about ten minutes from my house. I'll look into Mc Naught guns, too.

Couldn't get there this weekend but there's a JD dealer close by and I plan to go tomorrow. Really need that gun.

It'll be my first time in that place since I don't have anything JD and TSC has most of my general tractor stuff like hydraulic hoses and some other things. I'll check back with what I find,

This is the kind I just bought. They didn't have the one like SV's.
JD guy acted like he didn't know what I was talking about--was a huge inconvenience for him to look up the part # but then he said oh look here it is.

He was bragging on how much cheaper the one I bought was even with two tubes of grease.

Anyway, got it home and lubed up the tractor and car lift and all the fittings took grease so I'm happy. Not sure I need the added features of the other one so it worked out. If they'd had that one, I would have bought it.

Customer service at the local JD dealer. I've got my grease gun, i'm happy.
