Hello,

While replacing the head gasket I noticed one of these pawl was
stuck. Its a small leaf blower , and the head was 1/4 in or more
away from the thd block.

Vibrated so bad it shook itself apart. Good place to look if your
blower is vibrating excessively.

The pawls fly out like fly weights, and align with the blower wheel
for air flow channeling.

Here is the picture,

Guido.

re u sure about their purpose?

(quoted from post at 17:45:09 06/28/20) Is this a blower that can also be used for vacuuming leaves? If yes, I think they are knives to shred the leaves.

Rich

They sure do look like miniature mower blades.

Guido .It also may be viberating a lot because some of the fan blade/fins are broken off and throwing the flywheel out of balance to.

Hello Den N Ms,

The blades look a lot better in person. A little cleaning and trimming, and all is well.
Runs good and pretty smoothly,

Guido.

Hello Brian,

Yes they do. They were some mowers that had swinging blades. These must help with the vacuum and leaf shredding.

Guido.

Hello David G,

Its a Homelite hand held leaf blower. It gets abused when it is used as a vacuum, as it pick up stones that raise havoc with the blades. Its a 25cc unit, Sears units look just like this one, as Homelite made them, may be just a different color,

Guido.

Hello Russ from MN,

No, there are no springs, they just fly out as I see it. Never paid much attention to them. I was looking for a reason for the head bolts to come loose.

Some one may have forgotten to use lock tite too, as I SEE NO indication or residue on the head screws,

Guido.

ou got it!

That's kind of what happened to our blower, Weed Eater brand. The bolts holding the jug to the crankcase came loose, and it still ran a little, but it scored the cylinder, so it's junk. I haven't thrown it away, save it for parts, took the gas lines off it recently for the wife's weed eater.

Those little "pawls" are shredder blades for when you use the blower as a vaccum. Husqvarna hand held blowers have them.
