My friend came over today for help getting the ball off the ball mount on his trailer hitch. It had been on there for most of 20 years and the whole thing was pretty rusty.
So I clamped it in the vise and put the 18" crescent wrench to it.
The nut didn't want to move. So I put the torch to it and that did the trick.
Got the nut about 1/3 off and it felt like it was wanting to gall.
Looked for my can of PB Blaster but couldn't find it.
Then I remembered I had brought this old oil can home a couple of weeks ago.
It was in the garage of a property I bought about 15 years ago.
So I squirted some oil on the threads and worked the nut back and forth and got it off.
The oil in it looked like it was old, used drain oil but it did the trick.
I'm thinking I will clean the can up and put some concoction of ATF and acetone in it.
It's real tall - about 17" and must hold about a quart.
Just an old school tool that I thought you old school guys might like.

I probably have close to a dozen of those oil cans. I use them quite a bit, I prefer to use them over aerosol cans. I find them to be more accurate and less messy. I also have a few engines and motors that have oil wick lubed bearings that require an oil can.

I have a weakness for those old oilers and have managed to amass a shelf full of them. As for penetrating oil dad would never buy it. He kept the dirty/oily solvent from the "parts cleaner" which was a hog pan with kerosene and kept some in a pumper can. It works as well as any other concoction I have been around and it is free, try it You will like it.

UD, i have an older can similar to that only has a ridgid pipe-nozzle. Was my dad's primary oil can for heavy weight oil. As for mixing ATF and acetone in a oil can, i did that with a newer one with what i thought had a better sealing gasket, but over time it lost the acetone. Try it, your results may be different. Gary.

UD the acetone will evaporate from the can and be gone over time. I can't tell you how long and it really isn't a very good chemical to be handling. What about add some diesel instead. Will not penetrate as well and may take more time to free up seized parts but I have had good results and hangs around better that acetone in your oil can and you have tractors full of it.

I had about eighty of those cans i painted all bright colors and added pinstriping a little girl bought them all from me at a swap meet .Four bucks each.

I wonder how much that "little girl" got for them?
I bet, in the right setting, they would sell really well.
