Software to back up a smart phone to a computer

Does anyone know of a free software program to backup and restore a smart phone to a pc. I've got a LG and have not had any luck finding software that will work. I want to be able to save and restore all of the data that is on the phone.

I use one of these cables to copy or move files like photos, videos, contacts ( phone numbers), document files etc.
Form phone to memory stick.

If your phone crashes, it will be cheaper to replace the phone and copy what is on the memory stick back into the new phone.

Samsung offers a free backup clone program called Smart Switch. I have messed with it on my Galaxys and it works well.
 
I recently upgraded Android phones and used Synchronoss Mobile Content Transfer. It didn't back up to a computer but transferred directly between the old and new phone. It worked quite well for me.
 
External backup, more than one for important things, not always connected to the computer, is a good idea. Plus cloud backup.

"Bad as computers are to crash"

I haven't had a "crash" in many years, over 10 for anything, even a "freeze". I assemble my own desktops every 5-7 years, and they continue running elsewhere after that. It's been over 20 years since I've had a drive failure personally, but I know it happens.
 
Just make sure that you use a Data transfer cable. Without one newer phones cannot connect to a lot of devices such as TVs, computers etc.
