Which Dryer?

Been hanging clothes in the house all winter since the dryer quit. Which worked good as a humidifier as well, gets REAL dry with the coal stove running. Anyway, in the marker for a new on. Gotta be gas then jetted for LP. Haven't bought new in a long time.

Any suggestions what brand and model? She wants a hamper type door (hinges on the bottom)

Dryers are not as critical a decision as washers. That being said a few dryers you can jump the brand without problems. I don't know of any that are hinged at the bottom. About 4 months ago I bought a Speed Queen matched set washer and dryer. Very durable and reliable.

The kids got us a new Whirlpool for Christmas. It's electric, but I would imagine they're available in gas. This one's white, door is hinged at the bottom, but you could order it that way or swinging in either direction. We had a Whirlpool just like it for a long time,it was just wearing out. I'd had to get some lubricant in to the bearings a year or so ago. I don't think they paid much for it at Menards. They let the wife pick it out,and she's not one to let anybody spend any more money than is absolutely necessary.

There are many brands with hamper door.
I would stay away from any with more than four cycle choices.
Why anyone would need 36 different cycle choices is a mystery to me and asking for more repairman visits.

We bought a Speed Queen commercial on-site laundry pair a few years ago. They are the same units used in laundromats but without the coin op.
They are designed to run for 20 years and I know I will be able to get repair parts for the next half century or so.

The increase from four to 36 cycles in insignificant with microprocessor controls.

I worked at Maytag for 32 years. Try to get a dryer with basic functions . Also try to get one with a timer. That electronics can go out due to voltage spikes or Fluctuations .

Thanks for all the advice.

The Speed Queen guy said the hamper door is a Whirlpool patent, so Whirlpool it is.

As they say, If momma ain't happy... lol
