Me being cheap as I am I would fill the hole with that spray foam insulation trim it off then cover with some flat metal and even a tin can laid over it would do the trick. I still remember one of my grand fathers shed being cover with tin cans

I think I'll add the tin can. Years ago there was a mouse that chewed or clawed its way through the foam that was used to patch the hole in the side of the garage where the conduit comes out to the gas pump. Guess The Stuff isn't mouse proof.

I remember my grandfather had used old license plates & a few flattened tin cans to patch up the grainery in the barn. A few of the early ones are hanging up in my garage. Think the earliest one is 1924.

I learned a long time ago if one keeps it simple and cheap many times that works better then spending a lot of $$ to fix things
