Hopefully Easy 3-way Switch Wiring Question.....

Howdy all,

Not exactly a tool question, but I'm using a bunch on this remodel (-;

I'm running a new lighting circuit with 4 recessed LED's controlled by 2 3-way switches, one with a dimmer. From looking at lots of diagrams and getting a little confused, can I run power from the panel to either 3-way switch, then all I need to do is run a red jumper between the 2 3-way switches? can 14/2(w/g) be run from either switch, then run normally to the 4 cans? Power from the panel is already run into one switch box, the one getting the dimmer. Some of the diagrams I pulled show a red jumper to each of the 4 cans....

Thanks in advance!

I think this pic is what you need. Just add more lights in parallel with the one shown. You need 4 wires between the switches. just 3, Black, white, bare/green between lights

Yeppers!

Fig B in your link was the one I was thinking about, just wanted to verify that I could run the power to the lights from the left (Dimmer)box. holes in joists already drilled, I didn't want to have to remove drywall and drill joists on the other side of the room if light power had to come off box in center of diagram.

The three wire switch just switches the power from one runner wire to the other so both switches are tied together. When both switches are connected to the same runner wire the circuit is on. On the switch there is a black screw. It's where you either attach the power in or the power out to the lights goes on the other switch. The number of lights isn't important except for the wattage.

Yup, that'd be the one. Hot into the box with the dimmer, then out to light fixtures. 14/2wg plus 14ga red to the other switch.

I probably made this a lot more difficult than it really was, blame old age.....)-:

What part of Idaho are you in? I have a spool of 14-3 with ground that I bought and will never use it all. I would gladly give you some. I am by Idaho Falls.
