Pressure Washers

Hi. I want to upgrade my pressure washer to 4000 psi. Can anyone please tell me what the (better) brands are? I just don't want to buy junk. Thanks for the input. Jim in N.M.

I'm sure there are many good brands out there. I have a smaller one no sure of brand. Around 2500 or 2700 psi. Not sure. Have used more industrial units though. Many of the larger ones I have used were made by Karcher and of hot water/steam type. They seemed to work great.

Not really sure 4000 psi is necessary unless you want to blast paint off anything and everything, the wand becomes a surgical instrument, will cut flesh so wear substantial work boots, safety glasses or goggles and gloves. Only buy something with a HONDA engine, and a COMET pump. The Honda will be easy to find, the Comet pump may jump you a price level or two. There will be many different brands at big box stores, but they only make the frame the engine & pump bolt to.

I highly recommend a washer with a Honda engine and a Cat pump

I was in the small-engine business and self-service carwash for many years. .....The Cat pumps were the best we could find for the carwash. ...Honda engines are much better than others.

The PRESSURE rating is only part of the equation. ....The G.P.M. (gallons per minute) flow rate is just as important.

A washer with 4000psi but only 2 gpm will be a disappointment. ....A 3000 psi unit at 3.5 gpm will out perform the 4000 psi unit.

Pressure is what loosens the dirt, but the flow (GPM) volume is what washes the dirt away.

Our self-service carwash bays operated at 1200 psi at 4.5 gpm. ...The pressure was low enough to not damage paint, but if there was loose paint which was not well adhered, it would peel right off the car.

My own pressure washer has a Honda engine and Cat pump. ....2500psi @ 3.5 gpm, and it does everything I want it to do.

I personally wouldn't give 10 cents for one that didn't heat the water. I work on too much greasy junk. Cold water just won't cut it. I have a Karcher that I have had for many years. Cold-Hot and Steam.

If you really want to remove paint and tough grease on a project you plan to paint stick a rotary nozzle on your 4000 PSI washer along with hot water. The backsplash from a rotary nozzle is not as bad either compared to a fan nozzle. Some of the hog building washing guys use 8 GPM at 5000 PSI with a rotary nozzle. They must have strong arms.
