Hey guys, I am looking at buying a Milwaukee M 18 fuel battery powered grinder. It does not come with a battery and even though I already have some of the M 18 Milwaukee tools, I want to get a battery dedicated to this grinder. First question is with this one being the fuel model in my other tools not are the batteries the same? My second question is, should I buy the Milwaukee branded battery for yet or is there a better option online to buy the batteries? I m using Christmas money and have other stuff I want to buy so I want to get the best deal on a battery but again I don t want to buy junk either. I didn t know if anyone has bought the no-name batteries off Amazon or knee of anything else

(quoted from post at 01:55:44 01/24/20) A pretty light duty grinder, had two go in for warranty already, just stick with a 110v model.

I m just using it for twisted wire brush work cleaning tractors and small parts so I can work without pulling an extension cord or work out of my truck. Were yours the fuel models?

We use MW Fuel exclusively at work both in fab shop and on job sites. I do not believe there is much out there that is better and would argue the light duty statement below. They even make a 7-9 inch model now that puts out the equivalent of 15 amp corded grinder with new HD12 battery. I assume you are looking at 4 1/2-5 inch model so I would recommend the xc9 battery ( not sure on the prefix letters) But I believe the HD 12 will fit the new 4 1/2-5 inch fuel. To my knowledge the fuel tools take same battery's as std M18 tools. I would suggest shopping for a complete kit v/s buying bare tool and battery separate. Cost will be close to same and you get charger and case with the kit. I would not recommend knock off battery's due to what others have said but have no personal experience with them.

Check eBay for the grinder. Guys buy the
big kits and sell them single there
cheaper than other places. That's where I
bought mine. Do get the fuel. All the 18v
uses the same battery. I like the 5.0 for
most of my tools. All mine are oem
batteries. Google best price on Milwaukee
18v 5.0 battery to find the current best
price. Last one I got was Amazon $60.

Fuel just denotes the brushless motor
tools. Unfortunately grinders use mucho
power. I have the older version, works
great for light and quick jobs, but I cant
throw out the plug in grinder.

Batteries, if you are not in a rush, they
do come on sale from time to time. Usually
a 2 for 1 deal.

I have one of the grinders and like it, but it is not for real
grinding. It just doesn't have what it needs for real fabricating
grinding. It works great for clean up and light wire brushing
and body work type stuff and is handy because you don't
need the cord. But if I'm going to prep some thick steel for
welding I use the plug in one. Since I got mine they came out
with bigger heavier duty ones that may be better. I'm looking
for more batteries too. I have the impacts and grease gun and
love them.

I recently bought the fuel 3/4'' impact and it was a better over all deal to buy the complete kit with the tool and the batteries,
the batteries cost as much as the tool seprately, difference of well over a hundred dollars saved plus got the charger.

I send all my batteries to a place in Maine.i can't think of the name, but if you search remanufactured tool batteries in Maine it will show up.I think it is in Harrison. You tell
him what you are doing and he will tell you what you need. For most of my tools he could supply me with a better quality set of batteries in my housings for the same price as
buying off the shelf in the stores. My dad wanted a lot more capacity for a saw,the guy put in a much more powerful set of cells, but he had to get a different charger. It's been a
few years and the saw is still working great.Same voltage but a different composition of the cells.

I use adapters which you can get off
Amazon or Ebay and use the battery I
already have.

I can buy 20v 6 amp Dewalt aftermarket
battery for about half the price of a
Dewalt. George

Don't know about the the M18 batteries, but have bought knockoff lithium batteries for my Craftsman 19.2 tools.

Had no problem with them. They seemed to have a little less capacity for the AH rating than the Craftsman brand
batteries. Emphasis on the "seemed", no scientific testing was done.

And they were about 1/2 the price.
