Ni-Mh batteries

I usually get five or six years out of them in my digital camera. I bought a new pack of Energizers a month ago, charged them right away but haven't used the camera till today. Two in the camera, two spares and none of them would keep the camera on for more than a minute or two. The last set would hold a charge for months at a time until they went bad. I'm wondering if they can be old stock but can't find anything on line to decipher the codes. Anybody know where to find the information?

Without knowing the exact batteries it will be difficult for anyone to have certain answers. However, it's my understanding that new batteries need to go through a sort of break-in period before they work at their peak.

In your instance, sounds like you might need to return either the batteries or the charger.

Are you certain your charger is good for Ni-Mh?

Are you certain your charger is working properly?

I've had chargers that went bad. And as much as I hate to say it, there's always the possibility that your camera is bad. Have you tried the batteries in any other device? Could camera settings have gotten accidentally changed at some point?

Have you checked battery voltage with multimeter? If not, try checking immediately after charge, then again after 15 minutes (cool down), then again at 1 hour and lastly after several hours. If the batteries are not charged to high enough voltage, then could cause camera to shut down (power/memory saving feature on many electronic devices).

What's the air temperature?

When I was doing real estate inspections, in cold weather sometimes I'd only get a half dozen pictures out of a pair of fresh batteries in my digital camera. I always kept four batteries in a charger plugged in in my car. plus another pair in my pocket to stay warmer. Then rotated them frequently.

I'vs found a dramatic difference in run time and charge retention using Panasonic Eneloop NIMH batteries and one of Panasonic's chargers. They are made in Japan.

Used to, certain Amazon house brand batteries came from the same factory but last time I bought some they were from China.

I had similar performance issue before that with NIMH batteries and wasn't impressed with them. The Panasonic ones are substantially better.

Charged them again last night. Camera works, now I'll see how well they hold the charge. These are Energizer AAA, 2300 mAh. All measured 1.4 v after charge.

I kill 6 are so rechargeable AAA battery's a day wearing a headlamp. The battery's got to the point they would not recharge after a year are so a bud told me about this charger.

I brought it dug out the battery's I had retired it charged them up I have used them 5/6 years they just keep going. I threw a few away this week they were 7/8 years old are more... A good charger makes a difference not the cheap one the battery co sale...

BTW the bats were energizer I replace them with the encore battery's I believe the energizer are just as good if you have a good charger like the La Crosse BC 700

I had the same issue with my camera at that time did not have a good charger : (

(quoted from post at 12:12:06 01/12/20) Hey Hobo, if you like headlamps, you might like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018KS364/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It uses AA batteries. I use rechargeable and get a lot of use per charge. I grab mine usually several times a day.

Best rechargeable AA batteries I've used so far are the Panasonic Eneloop batteries:

New Ni-Mh batteries normally take a couple of cycles (charge/discharge) to develop a memory to except a full charge and hold it.

Hobby Shops use sell a device for cycling batteries. It was a battery holder wired to bulbs that slowly drain the battery to complete discharge. I used them alot when we were into RC models. Would cycle new batteries 3 or 4 times before we would use them in our models.

I only use Nikon batteries in my D750. Can shoot 8 to 900 photos before they dump. And that is with them driving the auto focus motors and image stabilizers in the lens. But they are 7.0V Lithium-ion battery packs tho.

HF has them, LED, 2 AA batteries, on-off, tilt, headband, $2 and change. Bought 4 last time I was there....nothing like having light where you have placed
your eye-balls!

I bought a Tenergy no frills TN145 charger for a song off the www and use their batteries in my hobbies, camera, TV headsets, flashlights....anything else needing AA or AAA. Well worth the money. Been doing it for years and yet to have one die on me.
