Torqued Off!

I think there is a government conspiracy against old men.
Government has increased gravity, I can't lift things.
Last night I had extreme difficulty getting the lid off a pickle gar.
I bet government had something with increasing torque on jars. I'm torqued OFF!.
I was thinking of getting my large channel locks out of the truck. Then I remembered I left my truck in garage 25 miles away.
I'm in need of something to open jars. I don't have the strength in my hands anymore.
Is the a device to open jars? I had to beat on lid many times with the end of a butter knife to break it lose. Good thing it was a plastic jar or I would have broken a glass jar.

Google "Jar opener for seniors". There are lots of them listed.

I have at least 10 different styles-sizes I havz gathered over the years. I think some of the Dollar stores have them with the other kitchen tools.

George,

My wife is pretty much of a "gadget girl". Years ago she bought a pair of pliers that span the lids of bottles and jars. I laughed thinking it was another good idea that wouldn't actually work. It works great! We use it frequently. She doesn't remember where she got it, but the attached link is for a product available on Amazon that is the same principle, but not exactly the same model as the one we have. If/when ours wears out, we'll be looking for an exact replacement.

Good luck,

I don't have trouble with pickle jars yet, but those PVC cement cans will whup me, and channel lock pliers will likely dent the lid enough that it won't re-seal when you're done with it. I stumbled across this cheap lid wrench in one of the box stores. It works good and I "think" it makes the cement last longer on the shelf. The problem with it is that it is size specific - you'd need a dozen different sizes for all of the different jar lids. Which brings up another topic - why don't they standardize lid sizes? Oh wait - that would undoubtedly be a government conspiracy.
opener

I have enough trouble tearing open the inner liner of a cereal box. I products were made with the same quality as the containers. TDF

I've used a jar lid pliers for oil filters for years, try using an oil filter wrench for a jar lid remover.

Really bad when it take 2 people to open a jar of pickles. I told my wigfe that the last time we got one. I have 2 of those strap wrenches and put one on the jar and she holds that one and I put the other on the lid. Works most of the time

You need one of these , expensive but very effective . I originally bought one for my old Mum , I found it so good that I bought another for myself . Now Mum's gone to God I have two , use them all the time .
Jar Opener

I have not been able to open a jar or twist bottle cap for quite a while. Dixie bought one of these as she also has the problem. These will be under 5 bucks with free shipping.

I run hot water over the metal lid on some that are tight. seams to work very well. other option... maybe an oil filter wrench, lol.

I think all of those lid looseners work well. Here's another variety that mounts under my cabinet. The silver knob is knurled so it grabs the lid. Just stick the jar up there, jam it against the knob and twist.
Works like a dream. I'm not sure where someone could buy one like this, as it came with the house when I bought it.
