Follow up on CNC

I completed the CNC mill, but have not used it the last year due to lack of time to work on new designs.

My biggest issue with it before was the customization required going from solidworks to linux CNC. There is a piece in the middle called a post processor that customizes the instructions that Solidworks sends out into usable information for the mill. I used a generic post processor for a FANUC controller that did not work real well. I ended up having to manually fix a lot of the commands. It appears to me most of the issue was that solidworks CAM assumed I had an automatic tool changer, which I do not have.

The Fanuc controls are very reliable, so reliable I never get a chance to diagnose them.

It's a real nightmare when one does fail, or suspect it failed. Calling Fanuc for help is a ridiculously priced ordeal. They send out the worst tech first, then work up the ladder until someone can actually repair it.

The trainee gets paid the same rate as the real tech...
 
This has Linux CNC, you have to configure the post processor file to handle valid commands, and to disregard the others.

Gonna take a lot of research this winter.
 
I am using the FANUC post processor file, gets it close, but still a lot of manual fix up.

I will customize this file and save as linux CNC and Grizzly.
 
I found a LinuxCNC post on line at LinuxCNC Forum. Might help some. T number them M zero six in the form of T6 M06 is the tool change command. Removing those, and any H6 command from following code from a file should prevent errors. 6 is an example of a tool number, not always 6. Jim
