Ryan Jr sod cutter?

I have a very old Ryan Jr sod cutter. It does a great job of cutting sod 12 inches wide sod. If I need sod, I hire someone to operate it. It shakes too much for my arthritis.

One of Newtons laws, all mass has inertia, resisting to motion.

I'm kicking around the idea of adding mass to cutter. Considering either bolting metal weighs to cutter or making a box and adding sand to dampen vibrations.

Has anyone used a Ryan Jr? Any ideas how to minimuize the shaking?

I want to clear about 1500 square feet of good sod and use in other places.
 
For every action is an equal but opposite reaction.

Consider that if you increase mas of the foundation of the device the inertial stresses from the mass (blade) being whipped back and forth will now be exerted on all fasteners and connecting components. Not only that but now the free acting dance being controlled by inertal stabilizing will take power to enact beyond that of design.

whatever throw a sack of sand or cement on it and see if your idea works
or hire the kid

sod sucks all the bending and lifting and arranging setting best left to bravado metheads
 
Actually I have an easy way to put down sod. I cut sod to 20 ft lengths. Roll it up. Then roll it into from bucket, no lifting. Unroll it where I want it. Water it really good before driving over it with mower.

I need to remove sod. The people I hire don't like the shaking either.

Perhaps I need to add mass in front of and behind wheels so I don't add weight to cutting blade.
 
I have found with our Ryan about 1/2 throttle seems to work the best. Full throttle will make it shake pretty good. Check your cutting blade and make sure it is somewhat sharp. Doesn't need to be like a lawn mower blade sharp but super dull doesn't help the shake.
 
I'm running mine at an idle and have the smallest pulley I can find on engine.

I bought a new blade.
