Kohler CV675

Need some info on this Kohler CV675 23hp engine. It was removed from a Husky lawn tractor but says "Craftsman" on engine plastic plate covering the air cleaner. I was going to use it as a replacement engine on one of my tractors , but have not been able to get any user reports if its worth while (it was free). It is a V twin design & seems to be pretty good condition. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

The C Series is Kohler's best.
Command/Command Pro

A quick search should find you any info you need.
Your serial number will get you more specific.

Craftsman and Husqvarna are the same tractors. Just different paint and stickers. Could be the owner damaged the Husq. cover and replaced it with a Craftsman.

SC = Courage (not the greatest engine built)
CV = Commad, Command Pro. (top of the line for air cooled)

Two things with the Command.

1. They were a bunch of them sold with weak head bolts which caused many blown head gaskets. Kohler made good on a lot of them tho I do not know if the offer still stands.

2. The Electronic Ignition box was known to go bad. Kohler offers a kit that has two coils and clear easy instructions on doing away with the box. I do not think that they sell the electronic box any longer. The electronic box is located cooling shroud on the right side of the engine. If the hole is covered by a Kohler sticker the conversion has been done or the engine is a newer one.

On a few models the throttle and choke cables my have been on top of the engine while others were down on the left side of the engine.

The CV's are great engines that produce good power and last for many years if serviced regularly.

Thanks for replies. Mule Meat great details. have pulled heads & cylinders are clean with little wear& carbon. Wish it was horiz shaft would use it on my sawmill!
