Farmall H Engine Removal

Hello all,

I?m currently at a standstill trying to separate the engine from the rest
of the tractor.

To start things off, yes I have removed the starter and the bolt behind
it as well as the front bolster and both frame rails (10 bolts total). The
problem seems to be that the alignment studs are holding up my
separation. I?ve tried PB blaster over the past few days and have hit
them with a propane torch as well, but still no movement around the
studs.

Anyone have any advice on splitting this old iron?

Thank you!

all it takes is a chain hoist and screwdriver. lift with the hoist gently and when there is a bit of space stick the screwdriver in there and let down on hoist. the other end will move outward. then repeat small amounts at a time. dowl pins are holding it.

I had to put nuts on dowels to pull dowels out on a M that I split. If doing clutch it doesn't have to be split. Drop liftall pump, split drive line, put 3 bolts in pressure plate and remove throw out brg guide. Itll come out bottom.

The two threaded studs (one on each side) can hold things solid. Ues a stack of washere and a nut to pull them out once clear of the trans, the pull easier. Put them in as you stab the engine back together. Jim

Well, I did it! Instead of attempting to remove the studs I used my engine hoist and a pack of plastic shims. After about 45 minutes of up, down, and lots of tapping on the shims she finally came free. The alignment pins weren?t too bad, but the clutch shaft was a little dry and rusty, and I believe that was my main hang-up preventing separation. Also, the mouse nest on top of the clutch didn?t help the situation.

Thank you all for the help. On to block disassembly and off to the machine shop she goes!
