tractor was hardstarting for 2 weeks and now does not start.
I have 12 volts on ballast resister & at coil. had no spark on coil wire, so bought new points, condenser and installed, now I have spark at coil but not at points?

The less spark at the points, the better! If the coil is sparking, the points are doing their job. If they
are not sparking, the condenser is doing its job.

I should not dee spark from points when cranking engine?

Only time you should see much if any spark at the points is if you open them by hand. Spinning he engine over you should not see much if any spark. But if spinning it over you should see a good blue/white spark from the coil wire that jumps a 1/4 inch gap or more

Thanks for the info, i will put my new cap on & hope it starts up.

Try cleaning the point's contact faces , they are sometimes covered in clear lacquer to stop corrosion in storage , this insulates them and breaks the circuit . Lacquer thinner is fine , or a points file will do .

Now i have no spark at coil wire, and put screwdriver between points and have spark. I have interally resisted coil and there is 12 volts at coil, stud on side of dist and copper tab inside of dist?

Messing with it you have gotten grease etc. on the points so you now need to clean them. Use the flap form the box the point came in to clean the points or if you do not have that any more a piece of thin cardboard of most any sort

cleaned up contacts on points and started right up. Thanks

Great to hear it started . Now the next time it happens don't blame the points straight away , it's more likely to be the condenser , new ones aren't worth a piece of what comes out of my dog's rear end .

A dollar bill works great to clean the points.
