Went to a garage sale this morning and scored on a Linweld auto darkening welding helmet for $5.

Haven't tried it yet.

Linweld is a welding supply company.

I wonder if the helmet may have had one of their labels on it, or possibly contracted to put their company name on it?

If you look closely there will probably be a brand name somewhere in it. If it doesn't work, the good ones are easily repaired and usually at reasonable prices.

You might have a real find there, especially if it's made by one of the top end manufacturers!

(quoted from post at 19:20:28 07/12/19) The name "Peterson" is molded into the plastic, if that means anything.

The Helmet.

Peterson is a plastic injection molding company.

If you look closely you may find a couple of small circles molded into the plastic. One circle may have numbers 1 thru 12 with a line pointing at one of the numbers. The other may have numbers or letters. One will be for the month and the other for the year that the plastic hood was produced.

Peterson may mold welding helmets that are sold to or used by many different companies like Linweld, Miller, Lincoln etc.

The Lens

Now if you look closely at the lens itself. You may find that it was made by Radnor, ArcOne, Jackson etc. That is the important part to know should you ever need parts or service.

$5. You did good.

I have a Speedglas, was given to me at work about 20 years ago, I'm surprised it still works. They must have a rechargeable battery, but mine is hanging in a dark shed most of the time, I've been retired 10 years this week, but I still weld as needed. I leave it out in the sun sometimes when I'm using it, it must charge up.
