Uncommon Flare...'95 Regal Steering Rack

I am unable to get replacement lines for the steering rack on my '95 Regal. Standard brake line would work if I was able to make this flare. Is there a standard flaring tool for this type flare?

There is a flaring tool that makes that type of flare. Dorman catalogs that end on tubing, donot know length. Found at Jegs.

What's wrong with your line. You might be able to remove the ends from your hose and have a hose shop install them in a new piece of hose. You'll have to cut the old ferrules and remove them without damaging the steel lines.

Actually it is not a bubble flare but it is commonly called that. My Mastercool hydraulic tool will make that flare and the tooling is called push connect. It places the bump back the line a bit further but you just trim the end back to spec. Pictured is a bubble flare, the only I have run into bubble flare was brake lines on a foreign car.

That type of flare is for use with an O ring on the step. My MAC/Mastercool master hydraulic set will make them in 5/16 and 3/8.

BTW, Napa shows power steering lines available, both pressure and return, for both the 3.1 and 3.8. My local Napa group can get them same day.

My first thought would be a quick trip to the wrecking yard or if you have an auto parts store or garage nearby see if they will let you swap your line for one off of a core.

> ooh, so now its called a bubble flare. it used to be called a double flaring tool.

No, that's yet another flare variant.

The lines you need are very common and will be found on any steering rack that has been returned as a core as long as it is a GM rack for the similar size car. Junk yards are full of them.
