If you are referring to a wi fi extender and an am/fm radio then no. The extender has to be in the same rf band as the radio.

No, the only way to increase the distance from the station is to haul it somewhere. lol

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I don't know what an rf extender is, but intend to learn- because I'd like to get better reception out here in the boonies.

Have seen a couple of fixes. Easy one, take a stretch of wire and wrap a couple of loops around the radio. If that isn't enough, ground the end of that wrap to a good ground. Amazing difference.

for the am band (who listens to that ??) any additional length of wire added will help 'some'. and if it's outside it's better. A random length of wire strung up between trees, buildings, laying in the shrubbery, around the eaves of the house, and attached to the radio or even wrapped around it will help. For receiving the actual length doesn't matter. For transmitting there are formula's to calculate the actual optimum length.

For fm I'd look into a loop antenna ... it will be mostly omnidirectional and receive well from any direction. A dipole or beam will be directional in it's reception (like a tv antenna). The higher you put it the better it will work

thanks for all the replies..the radio is a small am/fm in the $30 range.i live in an area that
has several stations all around me, about the same frequency. I thank every one's advice, i'll start checking thngs out, but I have to get some wire... have a great day

Assuming you have broadband internet, check to see if the stations you like "stream" live on the 'net.

I think the type of Extender you are talking about plugs between the cable on the antenna and radio. It acts as a signal booster. If so they are hit and miss as far as finding one that actually works. Most are made for car radios and need some type of power supply to work.

You can find all types of external radio antennas for sell. But then it depends on how your antenna connects as what it would take to use one.

If you have a small wire or single rabbit ear type. Then a longer wire may work better. I have clipped a wire to a metal roof and ran it to small wires or rabbit ear and had it work good then other times not so well. In theroy it turns the roof into an antenna or an entire metal building.

A lot of good AM stations left. I can pick a lot of them up all over the east coast when the conditions are right. 1020 and 1420 out of Peoria IL are two off of the top of my head.

If your radio is stationary, run a long wire between a couple spots, couple wraps around the radio or its internal bar antenna. If its on a tractor, etc, your out of luck.
