Gas pole saw

Stay away from bolens, Troybilt, or anything else made by MTD. The saw part is o.k., I guess, but the engines aren't very durable. The last one I worked on the coupling between the engine and the saw attachement was 'floppy'. And I didn't see any way to tighten it up. It left a lot to be desired.

Echo makes a really good one. Husqvarna makes a good one too.

I have one as an attachment on a Poulan weed eater. It replaces the weed eater head and works great.

I'll second the strong arms and strong back. Mine has a shoulder harness to carry the weight, but for a few branches now and then I don't bother with it. If you're going to do a LOT of trimming, I'd say try to get one with the shoulder harness, though.

I bought a 4 cycle Stihl a couple of years ago.

Expensive, but worth it.

Wish I had bought one years ago.

I bought a Husqvarna pole saw last summer and I love it. It starts easy and has very good power.
I paid around $700 for it and it paid for it self the first week that I had it. I did trimming for several neighbors.

I got a Stihl at a barn sale, the smaller one, 12 foot. I only use it a couple of times a year so it's a little hard starting but it's handy to have. You have to be careful. You're moving around and looking up at the same time.

I only need a pole saw a couple times a year, bought an electric from HF. I power it off my Honda Generator. Not always the handiest, with dragging extension cords, but runs when I need it.

I have a Stihl with the extendable pole. I have no complaints. It works good as long as you keep the chain sharp. As others have said, it is hard on the arms and shoulders so you can't run it real long.

The comment about watching where you step while looking up was priceless.

I have a Stihl. If I could redo the purchase, I would buy an Echo. Between chain saws, hedge trimmers, string trimmers and generator, the pole saw gives me the hardest time keeping running and it is HEAVY.

I use a 1200 watt inverter installed in my minivan 10 years ago and a cheap electric pole chain saw. Makes for relaxed, quiet and efficient tree mangling. Have cut up to a 16" branch. Good for making coffee too.

A friend of mine, a logger in a previous life and location, still does some tree removal and trimming.

Last year, he bought a 40 Volt battery operated pole saw at Harbor Freight, and just loves it.

He cut down a large tree for me a few months back, and left the HF pole saw with me to use for a couple of days to tidy up some other trees.

The thing will do an amazing amount of work on one charge.

Bingo.

If I was buying a pole saw today for occasional work, I would buy a LI-Ion powered saw and two batteries.

I have a 20 volt Li-Ion B&D, it's a little slow compared to my 120 volt chain saw, but is light weight and is easy to use.

I have the same B&D pole saw and am very happy with it. I just wished they would have designed it with an oiler. Manually oiling it while pruning is a bit of
a pain and I probably end up not stopping to oil as often as a should.

Dieseltech.... i was in your shoes last fall.. wanted one to trim back upper limbs next to hay field without removing tree.. also to trim around the yard..my folks have a stihl REALLY NICE but expensive for what I need.. I went to tsc store locally and bought a remington pole saw.. basically was the engine head of a trimmer with a chainssaw end.. 8" cut.. NO ITS NOT STIHL but it worked really well for what I needed.. not sorry for the purchase.. under 200 bucks.. key to running it is not to tighten the chain to tight..

The HF electric pole saw is a beast and one less gasoline engine to worry about. You will be tired and ready for a break by the time the battery is dead. The saw cuts really well and chains are available at Menards. Ebay sells extra batteries reasonably priced but I haven't needed it. It's a really good efficient saw and you can read reviews at HF. You will love it!

I bought that same battery HF pole saw a couple years ago, and have used it quite a bit. I only got the battery that came with it, I figured I'd grab another sometime, but the darn thing runs so long on one charge I haven't needed to.

My Landscaper son will tell you to spend the money and get a Stihl.

I had my 79 dollar Remington Electric Pole saw out this morning using it thinking how I sure got my monies worth out of it. Throw my Honda 2000 generator in the loader bucket with the saw and go. No having to worry about fresh gas or whether or not it feels like starting. No muss or fuss just get the job done.

I rented the BIG longest Stihl pole saw about 6-7 years ago over Labor Day weekend. Think it was $25/ day but actually used it 3 days for one day charge. Got all my pruning done and made up my mind no way was I paying almost $700 for one of those things. Much easier to cut the whole darn tree down! Just a whole lot of weight Way-WAY out in front and above you to man handle. I have about 80 trees and bushes on my 2+ acres.
