So at work they threw away two 5 in Makita grinders. The first one they could not get a cutting wheel off and said it was to old and didn?t want to mess with it. I put two pipe wrenches on it and had it off in five minutes. The second one had a cut cord spliced the cord back together and both work great. can?t beat that price. One even came with a wire wheel and the other one I just bought a 5 inch grinder wheel for.

A man after mine on heart! OSHA won t allow a taped cord,I find a lot of stuff for free just by asking.

I always have a spare cord around. When a tool is not repairable I will remove the cord and save it.

When my daughter was Office Manager for a boat shop, I replaced the power cords on countless power tools. Grinders, polishers and circular saws have a real appetite for them.

Really simple to do, I charged a flat rate of $20 per tool. Probably not cost effective on a $20 Horror Fright grinder, but on $200 Makita polishers it was money well spent.

I've got a pair of Milwaukee grinders I pulled out of the trash when I worked at the cannery. Same deal. New cords and one needed a set of brushes. $10 and 15 minutes of my time...

Great deal! You might want to look at the grease in the gear boxes, might be dry. Same with motor bearings. And while apart look at brushes, If you do these things they may be like new and last years. They might anyway but a little maintenance can go a long way.

I got a DoAll band saw for $20, from work. The blade guides were wrong and the blade would turn sideways when you tried to cut metal. I made new guides and I really like this saw. I hardly ever use the chop saw any more.
