Wet sandblasting.

I am thinking of doing wet sandblasting on some trailers. I have always done dry sandblasting. How much PSI should my pressure washer put out ? I noticed some kits from $20 and up on E-Bay. Are these any good ? What is a good brand to get / also what to spray bare metal after wet sandblasting dries out ? thanks for any help. Will be doing this in 40-50 degree weather in Maine.

I never understood that concept ? since bare metal and moisture do not mix well. I'm trying to get rid of all the rust not make new rust ?
I would think it is best suited for things like brick and stone that will not rust.

When I was picking up paint and primer for my dump body, the paint guy at the store asked if I had acid wash. I asked what is that? He told me that after sandblasting that I had to acid wash in order to get the rust residue that was in the pits. So I got a gallon and followed the directions. It is a phosphoric acid product. I would apply it just before the water is completely dry in order to avoid flash rust. You follow the acid wash up with epoxy primer. If you get white residue following the acid wash you need to pressure wash it to get most of it off. I usually follow the pressure wash with alcohol to get rid of the water quickly so that I don't get flash rust.

Never actually doing it, my take on wet blasting was adding enough water to the nozzle to knock down the dust. Followed by a quick once over blasting dry.

A lot of companies have even did away with wet blasting brick buildings. Especially in cities where the mess was to hard to control above the streets.

Most are now using Dry Ice blasters. Dry Ice blasting will do the job just as good as blasting medium but it will just vaporize once hits what ever you are blasting.

I love wet blasting. Less equipement, No big compressor.
I used a 4 gallon per minute 4,000 psi pressure washer.

Did it in the gravel outside as it is still very messy.
Cleaned up the rear rims and sheet metal of a 70 year old tractor of rust and layers of paint fast.
It will flash rust. The correct thing to do is acid wash it after. Does not matter if dry or wet blasting.

Don't ask me how I know but after acid washing it can sit for along time without re rusting, years even.

I've water blasted with sand on a lot of metal and have had good results. My washer is set at 3000psi and 5.5 gpm. When i finish with the sand I pressure wash and use the leaf blower to dry it and wipe it down with a solvent soaked rag. Before I Prime I wash with soap and water, seems to work for me. It does go thru a lot of sand. I use a dry blaster or cabinet on the smaller stuff.
