We never had one,,but sure could use one,,its going to be a good tool I believe

Larry, I have put probably 9 or 10 deer through my vacuum sealer and absolutely love it. One thing, those bags can be washed and reused if you're the frugal type.

I like mine it got to be a hassle to get a vacuum on the bags I thought something was wrong with the sealer and it may are may not be. My house keeper had a new Ziplock brand she had never used so I brought it from her. All was good till I ran out of the Ziplock brand bags that came with it then it became a hit and miss operation to get a vacuum with the amazon bags I had brought for the original sealer. I stopped my Walmart and picked up Ziplock brand brand bags so far so good . I need to try them on the old sealer it may be the bags.

I gave washing the bags a go I am not that cheap yet so throw them away :)....

If the new one does not work out I am going to try another I see them up to $200 what do Y'all have that works well for ya...

If your bags are not sealing check out the gasket on it. We have had one for years and it has a foamgasket that went bad once. Wife called the company to buy one and they sent here 3 of them for free. We have used it on deer, fish and at time have used it to bag up soup. Just freeze the soup first and then vacum seal it. When you want to use it just drop it in the water right in the bag

Larry, been using one for years to put up corn. Takes a little practice to know when to stop the vacuum and hit seal. I usually seal the end twice also. Works very good.

Been using one for 20+ years. Buy the rolls of material and make your own bags. Mark is 100% correct about washing. Also, sometimes when a bag that has been washed several times doesn't hold, cutting off the bottom seal and redoing helps. The bags do eventually wear out. The best tasting frozen corn I've ever had is the sweet corn I process and vacuum pack. You can't buy anything in the store that comes close.

We mainly use them to store foods we've dried, they keep longer that way. We bought a new one a while back and then I got one for $5 at a Salvation Army store that works
too.

I buy coffee in bulk and re-package with the vacuum sealer... Its the only way I can buy the coffee I like at a reasonable cost. I blamed the coffee on it at first the seal is good It looks like the vacuum seal part/port has a crack in it.... The new one does not have a port to slip the bag over...

I liked it so good got another if the new one does not work out will get another one... :)

we have one and really like it. my favorite is when the sweet corn is ready, cut it off the cob, then add chopped onions and green peppers and vaccuum pack it an freeze it. i do 2-3 cups per package. then freeze it. great for soups and stews!!

Tried the stuff on the roll, found it to be expensive and time consuming.

Went to a butcher packer supply place and purchased a few bulk packs of different sizes of pre made bags.

Quick easy cheap and seal good.

I had to get the wife a new one for Christmas last year. She's gone through several of them. The boys each have one for processing their own deer.

We started with a FoodSaver model like the one David G shows, but got a newer model last year. I kinda like the old one better for some things.

We almost never reuse bag material. We get the rolls on Amazon. Neither of ours use the large rolls, but I'll re-roll the large roll into 2 or 3 smaller rolls. Only thing you have to watch is making sure you don't have any puckers in the part getting sealed. A tiny fold in the plastic where it seals will often be enough to allow air back in.

I'd also recommend dating when you package food. Sure comes in handy. Wife pulled out some BBQ chicken breast a few days ago that had no writing on it at all, so we're guessing we've had it buried in the freezer for a couple of years. Sure was good! Oh, and is a lot easier to write on the bag before you add food to it!

By the way, some of the generic roll material won't work well no matter what you do. If you go that route, just go with one that has the best reviews. We got some roll material once that was defective. Plastic was hard and brittle-sounding. Had actual cracks in the plastic that made it useless.

Here's the last stuff we ordered. It's been pretty good. However, I keep track of the reviews, as there's not much in the way of "Quality Control" these days.

We've had one for years and use it all the time. The bags are a little expensive, but so is the meat we put in them. I would rather spend money on the bags than through away freezer burned meat. Try marinating your meat in them, it comes out great. I will put the meat in the bag with the marinate and seal them up and put them in the refrigerator for 24 hours then freeze them. The only thing I ever had trouble with was cut corn. The machine would not pull a vacuum. Called the help line and was told to flash freeze the corn on cookie sheets then bag and freeze. If you ever need to test your vacuum sealer put a spoon in a bag and try sealing it. If the bag pulls a vacuum and seals, you are good to go. The seals do need to be cleaned from time to time.

I've had one for a while and they are really great where you have food that has a short freezer life. Something like sausage which has a lot of fat. I've had some problems with seals not holding up so the last sausage I did I did a double seal on each end. So far its worked OK.

We've had a FoodSaver brand machine for years. The OEM bags are a bit expensive. We started using generic bags that we get from Amazon. They are about 1/3rd the price, are the same thickness and seal just as good.

These machines are Da Bomb if you are buying bulk items at places like Costco.

Same here. We almost threw the machine away when it quite working and then for some reason we called the company and they sent us a free gasket. That was over 5 years ago and it's still going strong.
