surfing U-Tube and ran across videos of making homemade ratchets.
seems to me a lot of work when ratchets are readily available at all the stores.
many of those 'wow' gadgets are to me useless.

Well, if you watched it, I think the guy who made it got paid a little bit for that video.

At least they used to get paid. I found that out watching one titled "How I make money on the internet". He was making videos to post on Youtube.

But sometimes I do pick up some useful ideas while watching them. I usually skip through all the welding and a lot of the cutting.

So, is that a bike sprocket that already ratchets? Otherwise I got lost there somewhere....

Boy that is a lot of welding on a bearing, I understand the quick short beads, but everything both sides got welded heavily. Yikes.

Yes it?s a freewheeling sprocket from a bike 🚲 and unless he.can relube it somehow I don?t see it lasting long . Might be kinda fun project for the kids

hmmm... you take a ratcheting sprocket and weld a handle on it to make a ratchet wrench...

There's nothing homemade about it!!! You might as well just cut the ratcheting end off another ratchet wrench and weld a handle on it and call it homemade.

I'd say to call something homemade, you've got to home-make the key working mechanism of the item. This is "repurposed" - not home made.

Funny.. Wonder how many people jumped on the internet and put down Henry Ford when he built his first car in that shed out behind his house?

It's called dumbing down of America. When that one wing wants you to only see the negative in people and be offended by everything you see or hear.

The guy took scrap, his imigination and used a little creativity to make something that he could use. And I think he did a good job.

Hope none of you guys ever have to take scrap and use a little imagination to create something that is useful to you. If you do. Don't post it on the internet or let the neighbors find out.. Hate to see you get shunned by the entire town.
