After doing utube videos, I finally put in the jack I have a 3.5 ton craftsman, I also have a 1.5 ton craftsman, I lost the manuals for both, lucky the little one had a sticker on the cylinder with a rubber plug, it says oil filler plug?? All the videos I watched guys were putting oil in the back were there is a steel screw. The video I found for mine also showed oil being put in the cylinder. I had tranny fluid on hand, and thought how am I gonna get the oil in there? Came up with the idea of using a 20cc syringe I think I put in 80 or 90 ccs. Jack is now lifting all the way up. I really hated to buy another, thanks for the help, glad I looked into it more and more. It really has been a good jack.

Jay low viscosity HY guard works well in jacks. I have had Transmission fluid swell the seals/orings in some jacks. Just regular hydraulic oil will work too.

The majority of jacks fill with a plug in the side of the barrel. Just remember to fill it when it is down if possible. The reason is if you over fill it oil will shoot everywhere when the jack goes all the way down.

Yes, I filled it when it was down, I dident have any hydrulic oil, but I had 2quarts of Atf on hand as my f150 had a power steering leak, I used atf, my log splitter also uses atf for hydrulic fluid.

I've got a Craftsman that looks like that except my side rails are a little different. Bought it a couple of days after Xmass about 38 years ago for $99.00, never had a problem with it. A best buy.

You will probably regret using ATF in it. I learned that the hard way with a 1 1/2 ton Hein Werner. Use jack oil or hydraulic oil.
