Tool o the day

It took me several years before I broke down and bought one. Sure makes installation a snap. Who else has one? Nathan

When I worked for a JD dealer in the late 70's we had a tool like that, not as nice,to install the draft control shaft seals.Put the seal over the rods, twist a little, hold it into place in the bore, and untwist. You had to do it fast, those seals didn't tolerate being pulled out of shape for long.

I bought a set of 3 last year.

I bought some seals for the neighbors dump hoist. The counterman pulled one of those out and installed the rod seal into the gland for me. I had never seen one before and was pretty amazed at how slick it worked. It wasn't a day or 2 later and I had a set ordered.

I'm not much of a mechanic and have never seen a tool like what is pictured.

Over the years I have sweat blood trying to replace "seals" and O-rings that are recessed. (One example is trying to replace the "seals" on a leaking load control shaft on my 301A John Deere. Is this tool (or something that looks and functions like it) what I need?

Have 2 sets them at work. Get used on really hard to get in U cups. Sometimes needle nose pliers work just as quick. Use seal shrinker more. Install lots of 2 piece piston seals.

If you want to get creative and save some money my neighbor used plates from a roller chain and some bent up rod to make himself one just like that.

last year around this time I read about those tools on this forum. Luckily santa was listening and surprise there was a set under the tree. The man who invented them deserves to be a millionaire. There are just some tools that have been invented, that the inventor should b a millionaire.
