Sears in Terre Haute Closing

Saw a closing sign on sears store last night. Another one bites the dust. Shopping mall is dying. Other anchor stores have already closed.

I'm glad I don't own a shopping mall.
When I was a kid I remember shopping from the Sears wish book. It was bathroom reading material and emergency TP.

I've been to the Sears in Honney Creek Square in the past.

FWIW, the Sears in the Dayton Mall, the world's largest enclosed shopping mall when opened in 1973, is also closing.

The one in Bemidji must of closed last winter when we were gone, and it wasn't even in the news, just went away quietly. The one in International Falls says it's and independent, and will stay open, I think it does a fair amount of business, not much competition, and probably some Canadian customers. The Menards depends on Canadian customers to stay open.

The Sears in the Burlington NJ Mall closed back in Sept. The Mall closed a few months before the Sears closing. From what I heard the mall became a hangout for youth that intimidated customers at the entrance.

The Sears in Mankato, MN, closed almost two years ago. Sad to see it go -- I worked at two different Sears stores to help pay for my college. But the closing means I now have an extra 20 minutes once a year to do some shopping elsewhere. (All I ever looked for were Craftsman bargains, but I see now the Craftsman name is showing up at lots of chain stores, mostly made in China stuff.)

Flagstaff, AZ. Sears in final days sale right now. Maybe already done with, haven?t been to town in awhile.

I did use sears optical and buy sears 18 inch 4 hp electric chainsaws. I've bought 4. One died, smoke escaped from motor. For $99 I would get a saw, 2 chains and a new bar. I felt a new saw was cheap if you look at the price of 2 chains and a bar.

Our local Sears outlet went about 2 years ago. At that time I posted that the 'top end' people were cleaning out the company with heavy bonuses and perks for themselves - appears I was at least partially right. Check the wages and bonuses paid to the higher echelon. Yes, online sales had an effect, but, those 'top dogs' just hosed the company. A shame really.

Sears in Quincy closed last summer and K-Mart is closing right now. Sears Holding will be gone by spring. Both of the stores here were making money, and they owned the buildings.

That is what drove me from Sears years ago. Couldn't find anyone to check me out. So I left the stuff on the counter and left.

There are only 2-3 Kmart stores and 4 or so Sears stores left in Minnesota. Don?t know how it pays to run the supply truck running with so few drop offs.

There are quite a few Hometown Sears, which are appliance and tools only, and more of a franchise deal small and owned independently.

The plan is to run all big stores into the ground, cash out the properties and such. So no surprise. I wonder what the Hometowns will morph into.

My small town still has a hometown Sears, but have gained a Walmart and Menards, lost a Kmart, Target, Herbergers, and Dollar General and Ace Hardware.

The Ace and Herbergers were just this year, and were downtown Main Street anchors. Doesn?t bode well for the small craft and odds and ends stores left downtown.

This morning in the paper, we had 3 Subways in town. The one in the middle, on Main Street downtown, closed.

Think downtown is gonna die here, town of 15,000. With 2 of the big draws shut down, there won?t be enough traffic for the little odds and ends stores to continue on.

A two year road construction project closing down the main twin state highways crossing the river into town can?t be helping. Traffic is officially diverted to a crossing south of town, and there is a small winding hilly county road north of town that takes a lot of traffic as well. No one gets near the middle of town any more with the road construction, don?t know how the 2 gas stations and the several eating establishments on that route can hold out. I would drive past them couple times a day, can?t remember how many months since I have?

When Kmart quit selling guns, I quit Kmart. When Sears wouldn't give my money back for a multi meter but only would offer me a gift card I quit Sears. Good riddance to both of them!
