I was gave this generator the engine is locked up looks like I will have to take the generator apart to separate it from the engine. I hope a 5HP Briggs engine I have will plug and play just so I can determine if its worth looking for a bigger one for it. It would be nice to have something small like this to have around if I can get it going on the cheap...

I would not plan to put any cash into it, can probably replace it with much bigger unit for less.

Those were pretty popular around here.I believe you will have to go in the generator end and take out a long bolt that fits into the crankshaft. The crank will have a taper on it,so just any old engine won't fit.Not real valuable, and being an alternator I seem to remember them losing their residual magnetism from sitting too long.I can almost remember a way to excite it again with an electric drill.I think you plug the drill into it,pull the trigger, and grab the chuck and spin it backwards. My memory on that is kind or murky.

I think most of those generators use a long tappered shaft , about 3 - 4 " on the motor output , so most common motors do not bolt up .

I replaced an 8hp pull start Briggs with a 10hp electric start Briggs on my Lincoln welder . The 8 hp had a magneto and points which triggered the initial power jolt for the generator to kick in . The new 10 hp has electronic ignition so i have to jump it with a spark or build an exciter circuit .

Crankshaft is probably tapered with a long bolt through it and engine might have a machined round cover that fits in the generator for alignment.

I have a nice generator this is just something to thinker with.

While I got ya the gal that gave it to me has a 8K Winco gen she wants $400 for. I rebuilt the carb and serviced it, it runs great what do you think its worth. When Hurricane Florence hit they flooded the market around here with cheap generators nice ones like this lost there value...

I have thought about setting the Winco on my back porch converting it to natural gas to run the house. My house is all natural gas, city water.
I can do with out AC till the power comes back up... What do you think about that...

That would free up my other 8K gen to tun the shop if need be...

Looks like you can pull the head and then if necessary the pan, without taking the alternator off the engine. Maybe
able to repair the engine.

Hello How,NC,

Just the engine is worth twice that. I have A 9000 WinCo
similar to that one. 66 Amp @ 120 volts. Pulls easier then a
lawnmower engine. Looks like it is already in your truck?

Guido.

Are you sure about the 66 amp part look at my tag model LLC9000E/N, 8000 watts continuous power 33.3 amps.... Yes it surprised me how EZ it manually started...

I had one exactly like it. It was bought at a Sears Outlet store in the 1970's. It blew a piston out the side of the motor while running during a power outage from a storm in 1999. I could not find an engine with a shaft and mount on the same side. The generator blew the voltage regulator and it became uneconomical to repair and I got a few bucks for it at the recycling center.

Hello Hobo,NC,

Here is the plate, 9000 commercial 120/240 66/33. First time
running, was putting out 134 volts,

Guido.

An important thing to remember is that the unit assumes a fairly balanced load of 33 amps per phase, you would clobber it if pulling 66 from one side.
