Bucket of corn- Maybe a coon?

I picked up some loose corn that was spilled in the ditch. The 5 gal bucket has a piece of 1/8th " paneling over it. Something is knocking the paneling off the bucket. I have some traps, but I am not a trapper. Placing traps around the bucket sounds simple enough, but there must be more to it than that. What other animal might be doing this? I don't think a skunk would do this, but I DEFINITELY do not want to trap a skunk in the barn.

What makes you think there's only one animal? You trap one, and another will almost certainly come along and do the same thing.

I really want to be sarcastic and say, "Ooooh look out Fort Knox, he has a piece of 1/8" paneling!" but I won't. Seriously you need more than that to keep any sort of animal out of the corn. Ideally you need the lid to that bucket, snapped on tight so the critters can't get it off, and such that it won't pop off if the bucket is knocked over, because that's what's going to happen next.

As of now, I'd recommend putting something HEAVY on top of the paneling so it's not so easy to knock off. Or, use the corn and remove all temptation.

Yeah put a rock or something on the bucket, then use some corn in the trap. Up against the wall if you can and set stuff around trap, so it can only go in. And it doesnt try and move trap. And see what you got in a.m.

The bucket had been placed on the F-20, but then someone took it out for a drive. The bucket got set on the ground and then that is when that I noticed the "lid" getting knocked off. I do not have a use for the corn and so it just got put in the barn. Yes I knew a hydraulic ram placed on top of it would stop most critters from pilfering the corn. I have a trail camera, but it will not take pictures anymore. I do know that I have a rabbit that winters around the barn. I bet he is the thief. What ever it is, they are not eatting much at each visit.

Coon, 10:1. I made a bait box for Tom Cat bait chunks with the hole so you can string them on a wire. Used to find the box off somewhere, wire ripped out and the contents gone. Often wondered it if affected them like it did rats/mice...still don't know.

Upgraded the box with extender 1x4s at the points of entry so the suckers can't get their "hands" on/reach the bait and put a heavy weight on top of the box. Yesterday it was out of position slightly, contents intact.

When I had corn in a garden, coons were in it all the time. Knew just when it was ripe and ready for me to pick it and they beat me to the draw. I'd get the "Slim Pickins" (movie star) left overs.
