I've got a Garmin nuvi 2587 GPS.

It's only about 3 years old and hasn't had much use. Something has gone wrong with the audio. Even at full volume the sound is very low and garbled. My first guess is the speaker has gone bad.

I was looking on Youtube, there is a how-to about replacing the speaker. Not a very detailed video, but looks simple and the speaker is available on Ebay.

Is this a common problem? The video says speaker failure is caused from getting wet, but this has never been wet.

Anyone ever tried to replace one and did it work?

Any way to diagnose the problem before guessing and wasting the effort?

Leave it alone and live with it?

Send it in for repair?

Thanks!

Before you do any of that make sure there isn't a software update for it (usually free). May not fix it but it is free.

I have a Garmin that the charger connection has lost contact. Sending it in for repair is only slightly less expensive than just buying a new one. Also, they do not repair them - they exchange them.
Functionally, is was a good unit, but the power connector was a bit delicate in my opinion.

I have had two Garmin GPS's repaired at Short
Tronics. Both had screen problems. On one the
touch screen quit working on the other the screen
had lines in it. His prices are reasonable and
he will not repair until you ok the cost.

GPS stands for Great Piece of S --t. Always lost or taking the long way around from what the kids show me. Or they just flat don't work /can't get there from here.
When I was in the truck I never had nor used one . Had lots of customers tell me you can't use them to get here it will send you to the opposite side of town or some other problem. I just call and get address and directions. Worked for decades.
