Small BRASS clevis

Am cleaning out farm shop for estate sale...found a greenish looking small twist clevis about 3in. long, with 1/2 in. holes for a pin. Upon buffing it clean, it appeared to be brass.
Why, what for, would this have ever been used for?
Brass would not be as strong as steel, right?

Many of the fixtures for boats are made of brass, and sailboats have lots of clevises on them.

All good answers. Most likely boats because of salt corrosion. See what other guesses come in.

Agreed, boat hardware. Might have been used to hold the "painter" to the Bow eyelet on a Skiff.

Probably bronze. Quality boat hardware is never brass, and many bronze alloys are quite strong.
