Stanley plane part

I have my dad's No. 8 jointer but it was dropped a long time ago and the frog broke. I'm trying to find a new one. I picked up one at a garage sale that I thought would fit. It was the right width but the mounting step on the bottom was different. This is the 24" with 2-9/16 wide iron. Does anybody have one or know where I could find the part?

You might try contacting Lie-Nielsen, they make modern versions of Stanley planes. Maybe they have a replacement part that will fit.

I remember buying a new frog for a #4 plane years ago only to realize my plane was not a Stanley. Oh well. I think I still have it somewhere.

Stanley still sells parts for many of their planes. Unfortunately, the #8 is not one of them. I am not sure, but the frog in the #7 MAY be the same size. It is available at the link below. I would suggest that you call Stanley customer service and ask the question.

Also this link from NC Woodworker has lots of good suggestions in it.

With a little diligence and fortitude I think you will be able to find what you are looking for. Keep at it. Good Luck

Stanley parts for 7

A #7 has a 2-3/8" iron, and a frog that beds it. The #8 has a 2-5/8" iron, and a correspondingly wider frog.

One complication is that the frogs for the Bailey planes vary somewhat by "type" as there were several versions of the frog over the manufacturing period. Also, the Bedrock planes have a different frog style.

If you can identify the "type" of your plane then you may be able to find a frog that will fit.
