I need a good 1/2"drive impact driver. either electric or with a good reliable rechargeable battery . does anyone have any experience with
these? thank you.Brad

I have a Milwaukee m18 fuel impact in both 3/8 and 1)2" and both are the best I've ever had. The 1/2" has way more power than my snap-on 1/2" and more than my 3/4" air impacts. I can't recommend them enough. I hear that DeWalt is also very good. I haven't used my air impacts since I got them.

I bought an older 1/2" plug-in Makita on eBay for about $75 and it has done a lot of work for me over the years. I used to use it a lot when I was parting out fence-row farmall Hs, and now I still use it occasionally when I'm working on machinery or driving lag bolts.

I have experience with only two impact wrenches and I highly recommend both. The first is an 18 volt DeWalt impact that is an absolute brute on nuts and bolts, truck and car, machinery wheels etc. I use this all the time to change tires and remove wheels from my vehicles. My son and son in law borrow it all the time to change to their winter tires and rims. I wouldn't be without it. The other is an electric plug in that I bought my son as a Christmas gift(so he doesn't have to borrow mine), it works in the exact same way with all kinds of power. I use my torque wrench on the wheel nuts and often the impact has them almost or at the torque specs for that particular vehicle. Both are very reliable. I prefer the battery powered impact because I can keep it in my truck and can carry it where needed. If it is just used in your garage or shop then the electric plug in impact will be just fine. You will be happy with either one depending on you needs and useage.

Rigid 18V rechargeable. lifetime warranty on the impact, the charger and the battery. It has to be registered when purchased.

I have two Milwaukee 1/2" drive electric impacts. One 1970's vintage and one a couple years old. Both very good.

About 20 years ago I decided to go with 18v Dewalt cordless tools. I have about every cordless dewalt makes. I love my 1/2 and 1/4 impact.

The problem with any cordless tool is sooner or later the batteries will crap out. The 1/2 impact needs a strong battery. A wimpy battery won't get it.

My advice is go with a cordless impact that you already have batteries and charger for. Then look for just an impact, no battery or charger.

My BIL gave away all his cordless tools and bought Ridgid lifetime tools from Home depot.

Many years ago I started using 12 volt DeWalt drill motors. A couple years ago I started using 20 volt Li DeWalt drill motor, and a 4-1/4-inch side grinder, and a 1/2-inch impact, also B & D hedge trimmer and weed whip.

I have been happy with the 20 volt B & D units and the 20 volt drill motor. The 20 volt side grinder is great to use but the battery life seems short.
I got the 1/2-inch 20 volt DeWalt impact to carry in our motor home for changing flat tires on the road, which I have not had to use yet, if I'm lucky I will never have to.

Like Jon said, Milwaukee M18 Fuel. Nobody else markets a cordless impact that even come's close to the specs of the Milwaukee. I have the 1/2 and 3/8, both are stronger than my IR and Aircat air impacts. As a testament to the power of the 1/2, used it to remove the balancer bolt on a Honda 3.5 V6 for a timing belt. Anyone who has done one can tell you how tight that balancer bolt can be. The M18 1/2 Milwaukee pulled it loose after about 2 seconds of impacting, my Aircat can't do that without the air on 125psi. The only down side when pricing the Milwaukees, they make standard and high torque models of both. So, when comparing prices, make sure you are comparing apples to apples, watch the model numbers. I have the high torque models, spendy, but I use them everyday.

I bought an electric impact from HF. Has always served me well. Has lasted thru 5 years of use and abuse. Cheap at $29.00
