Now I can breathe........

Frustrated trying to pour from my new gas can "Improved safety can, no vent" I found a simple solution. I drilled a 3/4" hole and inserted a tubeless tire valve. Removed the valve core, put the valve cap on. Problem solved. You're welcome.

I have done that. You can also buy those little yellow vent thingies with the flap on Ebay for a pittance. TDF

I still prefer using the little yellow snap caps. They are exactly like what used to be on fuel cans and you can get a 10-pack of them for around $6.00. They are super easy to install and replace (if the little cap breaks).

probably works good that way. I made a test 2 gal. gas tank. pulled one in bottom of plastic jug, with attached fuel line. fell apart quick. went back with metal,& nut, used right rubber washers, all good. first didn't like being suspended in fuel constantly.

That is good but you only went half way.
Now go to the spout, pull the sheath down and using a pair of side cutters cut off the epa stopper and gut that sucker.

I pick up used Eagle cans at the flea markets. Must have close to 30
of them from 5 gallon all of the way down to a tiny quart one. Never
remove that screen. Even have half a dozen stainless steel ones.

Those EPA approved gas cans are my daily reminder that the government has no place in such decisions. I too buy up any old style can that I come across for cheap. The few EPA cans I have all have been converted into non-dangerous and usfull fuel cans by adding a "water can" spout kit.

I own just one of those EPA 5 gallon gas cans. I don't like it as well as the others, but I've never felt the need to modify it. It does require a little different technique, but once I had that figured out it works very well.

How does it work for you when you must use a funnel?

They sell these "fluid containers" at Rural King. Long flexible spout, vented, and no "safety" garbage.
Works great. TSC also sells a "water container", but the spout is ribber plastic and cracked after a year or so.

great idea.. thank goodness I still have the older models with the vent on the back..I just have a problem with the cover braking off... found out golf tees work well to keep holecovered until use..

I used an awl and poked a hole in my gas cans. I didn't want to use a drill that makes sparks then hear a big boom.
I use a golf tee to plug my hole. If you want to be cheap, could use a 16p nail to plug vent hole.

Then I use a spout that I don't have to push to open. Spout works on all my gas cans. When not in use, I keep spout in a ziplock.

think lots of those government mandated "improved safety devices" can be downright dangerous. I wonder how my grandfather ever lived to be 96 years old.

You may split the seams of the gas can. I had a gas can in the back of my truck the heat of the sun caused enough pressure to split the seam at the handle.

thanks that reminds me to do my breathing treatment ..i like that , damshame you gotta do that on account of modern bulls--t regulations by govermt citiots that couldnt pour pizout of a boot with directions printed on the sole of the boot
