looking for a phone answering machine..use to have one years ago..i looked at a few in Walmart, did not see the kind I wanted.. I need one that you can post a note/message on.like "this number will not answer unless you leave name and a number" or something to that effect.. they may have these all over the place, I don't know''suggestions anybody

All the machines I have seen give you the option to record your own message. Most of the machines on the market include a cordless phone with it. Actually they are not machines like in the past with an internal tape recorder but use electronic microchip memory. A cheap Wally World version is shown in the link.

The handsets and the main base seem sturdy and very well made. Answering system is a bit different to operate than what we were used to, but is easy once you get the hang of it. Not sure if we ever will though, as our phone RARELY rings!
One of the best parts about this phone is, if you get a call from a number you don't want calling again, there's a button on the handset you can push, then confirm, and it blocks calls from that number. You can go in and edit the number list any time you want. This IS NOT the Do Not Call registry, and operates through the phone itself. It blocks up to 250 numbers. Has a good speaker on it as well. Not the loudest I've heard, but voices are clear. We like it. And yes, got the refurb'd model for less money. Not a single problem in nearly 6 months.

If you want a standalone answering machine like the old days you likely have to search eBay under antiques.
