angle grinder- back from the dead

I would like to have titled it a brush with death, but I did not want to scare anyone. I was using a wire wheel and caught the edge of a spoke wheel. It jump out of my hand and hit me just below waist high. Luckily it turned itself off. When I picked it up, it would not turn back on. I checked the cord, but it was delivering power to the motor. I then pulled the brushes back and let them snap back in to their proper position. Runs just find now. I hate the idea of throwing something away when the fix is so easy. Just thought I would pass this along in case someone else has a similar problem.

I've got a couple of Harbor Freight electric tools including an angle grinder....
they come packed with an extra set of brushes.
I don, know if that is a good or bad sign. LOL

Dad has one from master mechanic ? it came with extra brushes too. Angle gears got chewed up but the motor still works ! never needed the extra brushes. They should of sent an extra set of gears. I think it had done alot of grinding over the years though. Maybe we should of checked the gear grease too !

but is you overheat the cheap grinders, the plastic brush holder melt so new brushes dont do any good. So dont overheat the cheap ones.. let em cool.

The extra brushes that came with my new Hercules grinder from HF, fit directly into my Makita grinder. I have even found that both the local ACE and True Value stores have those brushes in their M-F fasteners section.

I have 3 or 4 of those angle grinders and I have found that every once in a while one needs to pull the brusher out clean them up and put them back in. I've had these for well over a decade now all but one that is I I got it a year or so ago since it was dirt cheap

HF angle grinders are one of the best deals around, on sale they can be had for $11 - $12. I keep 4 or 5 around with different cutting, wire brush, grinding wheels. When one dies I just go get another one.

That being said, my two oldest most used are Craftsman I have had for over 20 years that refuse to die.

Not the ones I just bought last week. And one burnt up after only having to use for 3 days, half the cutting disk left. Replaced with no problem.
