In the bottom pic it looks like the U shaped cast part that holds what I call the side gears has two areas that appear broke out. So it looks like there is more to it. Do you agree? So 48jr do you know what it is?

In a way it looks like part of a rope or wire twister. With the pinion gear set up makes it look as if a part or parts are missing..
