What is good to remove soot/carbon from exhaust manifold?

I am working on a exhaust manifold from a six cylinder gas tractor and the inside of the manifold is caked with soot. There are bends and other areas where I can not access certains places with any tools. Is there any chemical or anything else I can purchase to use at home? Thanks!

don"t know if they even make it anymore but magnus metafin we used on big stationary engines but that was back in the 70s

Same as all the other heavy cleaning: commercial oven cleaner. (potassium Hydroxide) Dawn will work just as well if you have about 17 years.

I use the sand blaster. It will take some making kinks in the nozzles but if you can get near that carbon it will clean it right off. I find it works especially well in the heat riser side of the intake manifolds on the 6 cyl IH tractors. Tried many different methods over the years but the sand blast really cleans them up.

I've found some terribly caked up ones off of
Wisconsin engines from hay bailers..but they are
small enough to fit in the sandblast cabinet.

BBQ it. Open pit fire get it hot, throw it on let it cook for some time at high heat. if you dont have torch set.

It's cast iron. Set it outdoors so the openings are all face up and pour it full of muriatic acid. Let it set for an hour or so, and rinse with water. It will be like brand new inside.

Got an oven with "self cleaning" function? Put the manifold in it and run the oven through a cleaning cycle.

After that, ask wife for forgiveness.

I warmed up a manifold in the wifes oven prior
to welding it..she was not very happy. I was in
the doghouse...they don't smell very good!
