I couldn't find any corn head grease so I mixed up some extreme pressure lithium based moly grease with some STP to make it flow a bit easier It seems to be working OK.

the best I can find is the shaft and gear and seals in a kit for 49 dollars and 7.95 for shipping
Ithink it was called petes and it is aftermarket Honda wants to sell a complete trans mision 110 dollars

They are brand new at Home depot $199.00
i would have a hard time justifying half that for repair parts. I say a show on the tv last week guy made a gas powered blender out of the power head i thought that would be cool to show up at the boys hang out with.

Can you please post that site where you found those parts? I have basically the same tiller only sears branded with the same problem. Thanks!

WOW!!! I"m impressed Larry, I"ve heard you say more than once your no mechanic BUT you got the gal apart!!!
Now if that were mine and it was still running good and the rest looks good (which it appears it does) I would spend the $57 and fix it. Fill it up with corn head grease or something similar and you should have a lot more good use from it. About 1/3 the price of a new one, and you will have gained some knowledge.
Oh, and HAPPY FATHERS DAY!

Larry your correct in that Pete's Small engine has a complete transmission rebuild kit for $110. That is a OEM kit not an aftermarket one. It looks like the clutch is in there too.

I would rebuild what you have. A new Honda is $389 and the parts are $110. So if the engine runs good then you would only have a 1/3 of the money and be tilling again. Plus Your FG100 looks a little heavier than the new replacement.

Your brass gear looks exactly like the one in my snowblower. It was the result of putting hard bolts in the drum shaft instead of shear bolts. I paid $55 for a new gear from sears and got the correct shear bolts.

yes ,but they offer the shaft ,brass gear and seals for 50 plus 7.95 shipping,do I need the whole rebild kit if my clutch was working good?

Larry check and see how the shafts fit into the old bushings/bearings. If they are not worn out then the worm and pinion is all you need but if the other gear wore out that much would the bushing not be worn a bunch too??

Then get some corn head grease and put it in it when you reassemble it. That grease is much better at carrying the loads created by gear sets. The thicker grease they use in some of these gear cases never is where is should be.

sears is great for parts - but often VERY expensive.

Find the part numbers you need and shop around - you might be surprised at what you find.

Just bought an $8.00 switch for my washing machine that sears wanted $45.00 for.

I've had a lot of experiences like that with them.
