Rototiller's 5 hp Briggs won't run, must've sheared flywheel key. Need to take off the pot metal starter-ball holder & lost my special tool ring-with-4-prongs so have to use pipe wrench to remove it & don't want to reef the wrong way on it! Does it turn clockwise or CCW? I'm thinkin CW.

yes the engine turns clock wise..so therefore the "nut" that holds the flywheel on is a right hand thread (CW) so that when the engine is running it is constantly keeping the "nut" tight.

hope this makes sense to you

Your points may need cleaning if you're not getting fire to your plug. Clean them with some 320 wet or dry. Then squirt a little carburetor cleaner in the air intake and see if the engine will fire. Hal

Regular threads so CCW to remove. If you use a screwdriver or pry bar in flywheel fins be careful or they will break. Use a fresh key in flywheel because if they become distorted timing will be off and it wont run. Buy a couple to keep one as spare. Them old 5 hp briggs will run a long time.

might want to use gauge to check compression too. I had one that would not start unless tank was full. pulling on rope felt normal, but compression release kept me form realizing compression was low. needed valve job.
