Grapple project.

For those of you who are remotely interested, and the members who use the “Classic View” I started a new thread to show the completed project.
Got the grapple painted last Friday, took it down to weigh it. 540-pounds, all the cutting I did on it, only lost 140-pounds! Went to the hydraulic shop yesterday to have them plumb the grapple.
Works like a charm, should come in really handy!

How did you get the 3rd hydraulic circuit for the grapple teeth? I have a similar JD tractor (4010) and the same loader. Looks interesting.

Looks good! I'm sure it will come in really handy, I could definitely use one right about now. We just had a bunch of brushing done.

Looks good. How's the valve with the detent work with the grapple?

I thought you had indoor plumbing? LoL I bought a couple of used Porta-potties that are same green with the ugly brown door for my MX track. Dave

Thanks for all the kind words gentlemen!

The jury is still out on the valve, but I think I'll get use to.

You know my wife just had to have that porta pottie, she refuses to drop her pants in the woods. I don't understand, the woods around our place are so thick you can throw a baseball into them, and it will bounce back. I've had it for years, and she hasn't used it once! She either has a riding mower or the tractor with her, so she heads back to the house. I just placed it about 50-feet from the shop, because last month I rented an excavator, and had a buddy knock down all the trees behind my shop and equipment shed, so now the neighbor behind me has a clear view to my old rest room.

Most women that come to my track don't even want to use the porta-potty unless it was just cleaned. I can't have it cleaned every week. It cost's about $150 to have both of them serviced. If you had a nosy or bad neighbor, you could put the porta-potty up wind of them on a hot day. I have mine by a loading ramp for high trucks and some people stay parked there the whole time. It's not pleasant at all on a hot day. Dave

Very nice. Good work! Made one for my loader maybe 25-30 years ago and still use the heck out of it. A loader isn't complete without one. Happy grappling! Jim

Good looking grapple. Now you are ready to do some logging. Maybe tackle that tree behind your tractor. Then you could do better than that guy that collected logs from the river and ran his son down all the time when they were on that logging show that is on cable. Last I heard they arrested the guy for stealing logs because all river logs became the property of the State. Just like the State to steal lost property, claim it as their own, then arrest someone for recovering it.

At 540 lbs. how much can you lift after that? Does it seem like it is too heavy? I have been looking at one for my skid steer. I only have 1750 lbs. of SAE lift capacity. The grapples I am looking at weight 750-850 lbs.

JD my little tractor will get 1300-pounds about 2-feet off the ground, then it goes into a weak zone. I move my SA-200s with my forklift attachment all the time. I just plan on moving small stumps, and limbs with this grapple. Yesterday I grabbed a bucket full of limbs and raised it all the way up on uneven ground. So I shouldn't have any trouble loading them into my dump trailer.

You could always lighten that bucket up like I did this one. I had planned on doing the same thing to the back, and adding expanded metal, but the back was so warped my mag drill would not hold, so I left it for now.

A ripper / counterweight I built out of 5 1/4 inch square stock. I just went to the metal supplier this morning, and bought some 3 x 4 angle iron. Going to build a bracket to hold 4 more removable pieces of that square stock 13 3/4-inches long. Will remove the shanks and bolt the bracket onto the original ripper / counterweight.
