Good deal on a welder...

I saw an Idealarc 250 AC/DC on Edmonton Kijiji for $450 or best offer. It might be sold already but that's a really good price. Could probably get it for $400 or maybe less. A welding supply had a used one and wanted $900 for it. That's too much though. They're a darn good welder. Dave

Hi Dave,

I see decent looking AC/DC Idealarc 250 amp welders on Craigslist (Seattle/Tacoma metro area) for $300 or less about as frequently as I see a Lincoln AC/DC buzz box being sold at the price of an AC only one. That is to say, maybe once every couple of months. A person who's not in a hurry can get a pretty good deal by being patient and checking regularly.

I'm not sure of the exchange rate between US and Canadian dollars. Awhile back they were about at parity.

I think maybe in different area's, people have a better idea of what they're worth? The Idealarc I saw was the cheapest I've ever seen one. I do see a lot of people with buzz boxes hoping to pull a fast one. When I saw the ad for the Idealarc, there was another ad.

That's the ad other than changing the L's. Don't think the guys going to get rid of it anytime in the near or distant future. That's a ridiculous value. Dave

I see those little Lincoln AC tombstone welders in the same Craigs List that Stan is talking about all the time. The asking price is all over the board, anywhere from $50.00 to $250.00! Honestly I can't say I've ever run one, I really doubt it tho! :wink: For some reason they remind me of a battery charger. :lol:

Hi Dave,

Northern Tool (just to pick a retailer I knew to sell Hobart welders) sells that welder for $300 brand new, free shipping. That means that guy's helmet has to be worth in excess of eleven hundred dollars. I guess you're going to get some of that when it doesn't cost anything to run the ad.

Yes and it was used with no warranty. Not that it's a good machine anyway. There is such a thing as a welding helmet over $1000 though. They are the helmets that have an inner liner almost like a ski mask and then there are 3 external filters that are strapped on your back. You don't breath any welding fumes even with the helmet lifted up. Dave
