Bought a trimmer

I went to the local dealer yesterday and bought a trimmer. Price was definately a factor so I couldn't drop too much, but I went with the Stihl FS 55 R trimmer. It's a straight shaft 27.2 cc model.

Not the biggest of trimmers, but I don't plan to do any heavy cutting with it either. Could if I wanted to though, would just have to buy the different heads which is a nice option.

So far I've run 3 tanks of gas through it and a spool of string. The newer auto cut head seems nice, less parts that can be lost compared to the original head. The string I bought though doesn't seem to last quite as long as the stuff that was wound on it when I got it. Only complaint so far.

What did that cost you?

My homelite trimmer is old. And I may need to get a new one in the future, I would want a Stihl.

With a 1/2 lb. spool of string, it cost me just under $200. The tag was marked $209 but I guess I got a deal.

As far as greasing the head, I didn't see a zerk on it but I'll look closer next time. Being as I'm a new home owner I don't have my own grease gun yet (have full access to them at the farm so not a priority right now) but eventually I'll get one... Maybe sooner if I need to grease this thing.

THe head on my stihl has an opening that's opened with the torx wrench you got in your kit. Then the plastic tube of Stihl brand head grease in the kit threads into the opening, squeeze, and it's greased. Granted, mine is 5 yrs old, but I bet there's a similar arrangement on yours.

Mine takes a 13mm wrench to open the hex head cap screw. I just push white grease in with my finger, been doing it this way for years.

I have a Stihl like that I bought 10 years ago. Have run it about 5 hours every summer, and I've never greased it. Guess I will look at it today.
