Is a genset rotation specific?

Today I picked up a Kawasaki 5000 Watt generator with a sheared crankshaft. The plan is to take the genset off it and mount it to a removable plate that will fit on the front of my John Deere 212 garden tractor. It will run off the side belt pto like the snowblower does. Hence my question..

Is the direction of rotation specific to an AC generator?

But there might be a problem. Is the shaft end bearing strong enough to survive the pull of the belt? So will and some made only for direction connection won't and you probably can't tell by looking. The maker might tell you if you ask but may know either.

I don't think so, but you will have a lot of money
in it buy the time you get it set up to run off
garden tractor. It doesn't have bearing on engine
side.

The plan is to take the pto end of the crank, cut it off and lengthen it to create a jackshaft. A couple pillow blocks on either side and that should do it. There won't be any side pull on the genset.

remember this, that generator needs to be spinning at 3600 RPM to have the correct voltage and frequebcy output. Be sure to size your pulleys appropriately.

Only matters for the cooling fan. But you are going to spend more money than it is worth. You will need to support the front end. You will need perfect alignment to keep the rotor out of the stator. Then you will need a control system to start it producing electricity.
