Die Grinders

Looking for a new die grinder, and wondering what you all have and like the best. Looking for both a straight and right angle.

Thanks

Jason

I have two DeWalts; one is around 10-years old with no problems at all. The other was just out of warranty when it developed a short in the paddle switch; I took it into the local tool repair shop. They say it has an intermediate short deep in the armature, and they can’t figure out where. Been in the shop since July 2nd! I think they can keep it! Don’t think I’ll ever buy another DeWalt.

i have matco straight and 90 degree die grinders. both work well. the lower priced ones use a lot of air to get the same power. one thing with the 90 degree air die grinder, get the mini grease gun kit to lube the gear head. if you dont, you will burn them up quick. the grease gun also works on the air rachet heads.

For air you need a decent compressor. I've never seen an electric right angle one. If you are using air but only occasionally, the cheap ones will work fine. If you're going to be doing lots of heavy work, then a good name brand is better. Fuji, CP, etc. Electric with a variable speed is nice. Metabo has a good one but Makita has a couple different models. Most electric are pretty good and don't lose power like an air one. Good carbide bits make a big difference too. The little grinding wheels some of them come with are useless. Dave

I've had all makes of pneumatic die grinders. Used with cut offs, burrs, erasure wheels and misc. The angle types are hard to control so are used only where a straight grinder won't fit. Harbor Freight el cheapo's work fine so I have many. It saves time having a grinder for each function.

I recently purchased a 1 hp Matco. It is pricey but worth it. I have not had it slow down at all. The thing I like best is that it semms only half as noisy as the I/R composite that I just wore out.
