Hey folks. Any experience good or bad with these things (or something compareable)? Need to (would like to) run a water line into my back yard and had given in to running it above ground and insulating it until this was mentioned on Tractor Talk. Over the years, I have built a couple walls and backfilled in order to level the yard and gain some more space and it'd be a shame and PITA to dig that up again. If these things work, I could run water to a cellar and on out to the stalls in the back yard by going under the filled area. Distance is not that far (<60 ft). Could also see myself punching a couple shallow wells with it.

Any advice is appreciated.

I tried doing a homemade version using 2 garden hoses, hooked up to 2 different faucets. Worked for about 8 ft. Borrowed a 2" trash pump, worked much better - went 42 ft for a 2" well. I saw a ag well put in with a rig on a semi - it was a big pump, sank a 12 in well in less than an hour. Sandy ground in Michigan makes these rigs pretty common.

this BorZit looks like a great tool. I too would like more info from users. Thanks for bring it to our attention.Jack

Depending on how far you need to go, you can buy a simple plastic kit from Menards that will work on either 3/4" or 1" PVC/CPVC pipe where you just hook up a garden hose to the pipe. The kit consists of a fitting that mates with a standard garden hose (for one end of the pipe) and a plastic nozzle for the other end. It costs about $4. Works great for short distances, like about 10-15 feet. I've used one on a couple occasions. The higher the water pressure, the better the boring.
