I posted another answer to your posting. Couldn't remember the solution at the time. A Service Manual would be really helpful.
 
Thanks for the reply. I had to look back through the posts to remember what my original question was. It must have been the 2-cycle engine split. I don't think I'll try your solution, because I can't come up with a way to heat the crankcase without melting the rubber seal. It amazes me how much precision Stihl puts into their products, but it makes them harder for shade-tree mechanics to work on.

the trick is to stop heating after the crankcase has expanded enough to let the bearing go but before the seal burns. Takes practice or luck. Of course the seal, crankcase gasket & all expendable parts will be replaced anyway.
